Who We Are
Legal Hand works towards preventing problems from turning into legal actions. We further the contribution that non-lawyers can make to expand access to justice.
At Legal Hand, our highly trained Volunteers, who are not lawyers, provide free legal information, assistance and referrals to help you resolve issues that affect your life in areas like housing, family, consumer debt, immigration, domestic violence, public benefits, employment and many more.
Legal Hand Volunteers are both local community members and law students who are committed to helping prevent problems from turning into legal issues.
When Legal Hand Visitors are facing legal actions, our Volunteers can assist you by providing relevant information on the law and assist with court forms.
Furthers the contribution that individuals, who are not lawyers, can make to expand access to justice.
Legal Hand provides another pathway for law students to help in the community where they attend school.
All are welcome and treated with respect and dignity.
No appointments necessary.
All are assisted regardless of income or immigration status.
In addition to normal business hours, we are open evenings and Saturdays.
What We Do
We provide community members (who we call Visitors) with legal information, resources, and referrals. We do not provide legal advice or representation.
We create content that coordinates legal information, resources, and referrals as well as one-pagers on various areas of law like employment, housing, family, immigration, domestic violence, and public benefits.
We provide Know Your Rights webinars for the communities we serve.
We engage in in-person outreach through community events, including community fairs, farmer's markets, and local food banks.
