Our volunteer attorney opportunities involve addressing the needs and rights of people incarcerated in New York State prisons. The work is varied and can be tailored to the strengths and interests of the volunteer. It may include, for example: drafting administrative appeals challenging prison disciplinary hearing dispositions; challenging disciplinary hearing dispositions in state court via Article 78 proceedings; drafting administrative advocacy letters on behalf of incarcerated clients, seeking medical care, mental health care, protective custody, or other needs; drafting and submitting comprehensive applications for Medical Parole, Executive Clemency, or Conditional Parole for Deportation Only; or legal research of various topics related to the rights of incarcerated people.
