Who We Are

For more than 50 years, LSHV has provided free, high-quality civil legal services across a wide range of areas where basic human needs are at stake, such as eviction and foreclosure prevention, domestic violence, disability, elder law, healthcare, and consumer matters. With the gap separating those who can and cannot afford legal representation widening each day, our services are more vital than ever in ensuring that the 600,000 low-income families and individuals living in our catchment area have equal access to justice, regardless of their ability to pay. LSHV is the only provider of comprehensive civil legal services in the lower and mid-Hudson Valley (Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess, Rockland, Orange, Ulster and Sullivan).  LSHV has ten offices throughout the Hudson Valley.

What We Do

LSHV attorneys provide the full spectrum of legal services—from advice and counsel to direct representation—to low-income individuals and families across a wide range of civil legal issues, including eviction and foreclosure prevention, domestic violence, disability, elder law, healthcare, and consumer matters. In addition to serving individual clients, our attorneys engage in systemic change work through advocacy and affirmative litigation. We have several specialized units, such as our Veterans and Military Families Advocacy Project and our LGBTQ+ Unit.
